Watch Robbie Maddison jump 378′ on NYE

Robbie Maddison and Levi LaVallee traveled a combined 790’6” as they jumped side by side across the San Diego bay during Red Bull’s No Limits 2012 NYE. On his way to a new snowmobile jump record of 412.6′, Levi LaVallee’s GoPro caught this amazing footage of Robbie Maddison launching his YZ450F ‘only’ 378 feet, just short of the 392 he jumped while practicing and Ryan Cape’s 391′ record. Watch as LaVallee’s other GoPro dismounts from the snowmobile upon landing and records a wild light show before coming to a stop on the astroturf. Does Maddison’s failed record breaking attempt make this any less awesome? We don’t think so.

2010 Yamaha YZ450F: reverse cylinder, no battery

By reversing the cylinder on the 2010 Yamaha YZ450F, inertial mass is centralized and the intake track is straightened. That means more power and better handling. Additionally, the cylinder is offset so the connecting rod is vertical when the force of combustion is at its greatest, minimizing piston/cylinder friction. That means better response. The smaller, 1.6-gallon tank is now located under the seat, for a lower center of gravity. Like we told you in June when the technical diagram leaked, the YZ450F has received its most thorough redesign since Yamaha first went four-stroke in 1998.> :continue:

James Stewart dispels 2010 Yamaha YZ450F rumors

We’ve already shown you the 2010 Yamaha YZ450F and its reverse-cylinder engine, but Yamaha continues to pretend that the whole world hasn’t seen it. In this video, James Stewart responds to a bunch of nonsense rumors from various Yamaha employees. Who knew Jorge Lorenzo was so telegenic? > :continue:

2010 Yamaha YZ450F leaked with reversed single-cylinder

2010 Yamaha YZ450F leaked with reversed single-cylinder

Update: the 2010 Yamaha YZ450F has been officially unveiled and, yeah, this was it. Click here to see it.

This shot of the 2010 Yamaha YZ450F is getting a lot of attention and rightly so. We can’t remember having seen any reversed cylinder machines sold to the public since the 1990 Yamaha TZ250A privateer road-racer. Beyond the reversed single-cylinder, the new YZ450F looks to be an entirely new bike, with a slew of refinements including front and rear suspension, rear frame, new seat and we’re guessing a completely revised chassis as well. While we think the Yamaha looks pretty cool and will be fast in the dirt, we’re holding out for a  supermoto version.

Roland Sands Design 450 Super Single goes on sale

Roland Sands Design 450 Super Single goes on sale

The first of Roland Sands’s 450 Super Singles are on sale now. $14,999 buys you a WR450F chassis and engine tilted forward onto race-spec R6 forks and PM Racing wheels. The engine is tweaked to produce about 60bhp. Fifteen large might sound like a lot of money for a track-only, small-capacity bike, but not only will these be built in very limited numbers, they will also give you the ability to be the fastest person on a track day, on the smallest capacity bike. And don’t worry, rearsets and an underseat exhaust are included in the price, if not the picture.
