Photos: Nicky Hayden takes knee down literally

These photos speak for themselves, but you guessed it, Nicky Hayden was literally getting his knee down, with no puck in the way, at yesterday’s Indianapolis Grand Prix. As in flesh/tarmac interface. Yuck. :continue:

Just a couple of good Kentucky boys catching up on farm chores when they’re not off racing motorcycles. Nicky says, “Was a bad day on the farm lost a llama. And almost as bad me & Tom had to put it to rest….”

Alpinestars XA: cooling the MotoGP grid

Alpinestars XA: cooling the MotoGP grid

While watching the last MotoGP race at Mugello I saw this device poking out of Nicky Hayden‘s leathers before the race. We’ve been seeing them in use for a few years, but it reminded me that’d I’d never figured out exactly what they were or how they worked. Turns out it’s an Alpinestars XA cooling device, developed specifically for professional racers and works like a tiny A/C unit. > :continue:

Nicky Hayden to Jorge Lorenzo: 'pip, pip cheerio'

Despite growing up in England, I have no earthly idea as to how cricket works, so I can’t really be sure, but it looks like Nicky Hayden and Jorge Lorenzo suck at it. These photos were snapped as some sort of press thingy in the runup to this weeekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Think Nicky had to ask his daddy’s permission before playing?

Nicky Hayden just got out of his second arm pump-correction surgery and tweeted this shot, saying, “Stiches just out back in the saddle for Malaysia2 test in T-4 days….. Yeay buddy!!!” His scar is much more impressive than mine.

Ducati GP10: 'smoother, more bottom end'

Casey Stoner says his Ducati GP10 is, “a lot smoother on the throttle, it’s got a lot more bottom end. It’ll wheelie a lot less and just have so much more traction.” The MotoGP bike has a new big-bang firing order and likely more traction and wheelie-control electronics, but other details are scarce. A newly healthy Stoner and newly confident Nicky Hayden hope the GP10 will be capable of besting Valentino Rossi’s M1. Two videos below.> :continue:

Hayden 'in the doghouse' for leaking GP10

Nicky Hayden says he could be “in the doghouse” after leaking a shot of the Ducati GP10. The bike was supposed to be unveiled this week in Italy, but Hayden posted an iPhone shot of it on his personal website just before christmas. The kid from Kentucky went on to tell The Beeb, “When I saw the bike I took a picture on my phone. I should have known better, I was like a kid.” Casey Stoner then stated, “The new ‘big bang’ firing order that the Ducati engineers have been working on is definitely a step forward.”

Ducati GP10 leaked by Nicky Hayden

Oops. Looks like Nicky Hayden published an iPhone photo of the Ducati GP10 far ahead of its official unveiling. Snapped at the factory during a tour, the Ducati racer appears unaware of the gaff, the image remains on his personal website. So what’s he revealing to the world? The GP10 uses larger vents in the side fairing, likely there to provide more cooling for the engine. In 2010, six engines per bike will be required to last all 18 MotoGP races; cooling is a major factor in building in that added service life. Can you spot any other changes?

Nicky Hayden highsides in Germany, acts like it's no biggie

Nicky Hayden highsides in Germany, acts like it's no biggie

Determined to prove his worth on the nearly untameable Ducati Desmosedici RR, Nicky Hayden has once again spectacularly crashed during qualification sessions. In the previous MotoGP round at California, we were in awe as we watched him casually hop on his second bike and head back out after a huge crash. Obviously that wasn’t good enough, so for Germany he did one better by catapulting himself into Ducati Pramac rider Niccolo Canepa, who also looked to be just beginning his own highside. While poor Canepa was carried off on a stretcher, Hayden skipped along next to him.
