23 photos of the fully liveried KTM Moto3 racer in action

These photos mark the first time we’ve seen the KTM Moto3 racer in all its fully-painted, ready-to-race glory. Including the rider, this tiny gem weighs just 326lbs and is powerd by a 250cc, four-stroke single making something in the region of 54bhp. Lap times are still slightly slower than the 125cc two-strokes its replacing, but Moto3 has yet to see even its first race, which will occur next month in Malaysia.

Watch the KTM Moto3 racer lap Valencia

Many, including us, mourn the loss of GP racing’s last two-stroke class. But, this new KTM Moto3 racer is going an awful long ways to making up for it. Tiny, powerful, intricately engineered and already capable of some pretty impressive lap times, the last question remaining is: what does it sound like? Here’s 36 images and a bunch of trackside videos of it testing at Valencia last week. Even limited to 14,000rpm, these little four-strokes sound amazing. :continue:

First photos of the KTM Moto3 racer

A cast swingarm pivot plate mated to a dainty steel trellis frame. A self-supporting carbon seat unit. A 55lbs, 250cc, single-cylinder four-stroke making something in the neighborhood of 54bhp. Tiny two-piston radial brakes. 326lbs (including rider). These first live photos of the KTM Moto3 racer, shot during Valencia testing, make for some great bike porn on a Friday afternoon. :continue:

KTM’s 250cc four-stroke and Moto3′s final rules

It’s a busy day in the Moto3 world. KTM has unveiled its new 250 four-stroke and Dorna have also released nearly-final rules for the class. Looking at the motor with those rules in mind, KTM seems to have a winner. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of KTM’s engine, the new rules and how this will effect Moto3 (and hopefully small-displacement streetbikes).

This is the KTM Moto3 racer

Speaking at a press conference in Red Bull’s famous Hangar 7, KTM president Stefan Pierer just unveiled these renderings of KTM’s new Moto3 racer. As expected in the new prototype class, which replaces 125GP with 250 four-strokes next year, the bike is impressively exotic. A cast swingarm pivot connects to an impossibly dainty steel-trellis frame. The rear subframe and seat appear to be self-support carbon fiber. The front wheel is a novel large spoke/deep carbon rim design and the front brake is a tiny little single-pot radial affair. Tasty. :continue:
