Congrats Erik

Less than three years after having his company unceremoniously shitcanned by corporate greed, Erik Buell has claimed two podiums in a single AMA Pro Superbike weekend. Dannny Eslick and Geoff May both placed third on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Those podiums are a huge result for EBR, the tiny, tiny, tiny East Troy, Wisconsin-based company developed its own model, the EBR 1190RS, which can now legitimately compete with the might of the ginormous Japanese manufacturers. Looking for your Burt Munro or John Britten story for the 21st century? This is it. :continue:

‘Racing as R&D for product’

In this 5th installment of EBR Nation, we get a look behind the scenes of pre-season testing at Jenning’s GP down in Florida. Danny Eslick and Geoff May give insight into both the EBR 1190RS’speformance, and also its development process. Described as an “old school approach,” Erik is using racing as development for his products. That makes sense when you see the bike in person, it looks pretty much like a GP bike, as opposed to the cost-cut mass production we’re more used to from mainstream manufacturers. :continue:

Erik Buell’s Hero

“EBR is delighted to partner with a company as iconic as Hero MotoCorp. Both HMCL and EBR share the common commitment to manufacturing world-class two-wheelers with technology of the future,” stated Erik Buell this morning when it was announced that EBR is entering into a technology and design partnership with India’s Hero MotoCorp. Hero is, by volume, the largest manufacturer of powered two-wheelers in India and the deal will see Erik Buell Racing help evolve their products into the future while providing a much-needed injection of capital into the fledgling American company. The EBR 1190RS will now compete in AMA Pro Racing under “Team Hero” colors. :continue:

‘We’re finally free’ — Erik Buell

In this third installment of EBR’s behind the scenes look at 1190RS production Erik and Geoff Mat talk about the significance of the project and its challenges while giving you a look at some of the handmade carbon fiber production. EBR, fuck yeah.

Update: part 4 is out too, it’s below. :continue:

Builder: Erik Buell

I had a chance to sit down with Erik Buell some time ago at Pro Italia’s annual Cafe Desmo event, where not only was Erik showing the incredibly exotic carbon 1190RS, but a client had brought their own freshly delivered 1190RS as well. Several of EBR’s first machines had just gone out and Erik’s enthusiasm was boundless, regardless of the Great Recession. Maybe a future of fast and beautiful American motorcycles isn’t so dim, after all. Click below for the feature.

An in-depth look inside Erik Buell Racing and the 1190RS

Used to seeing Buells in dealerships and on the road, it’s easy to assume that Erik’s operating at a similar level post-Harley. He’s not. Instead, his new operation is located in an industrial estate outside East Troy Wisconsin and his new company, Erik Buell Racing, employs only a handful of people. This video, created by Crotch Rocket TV’s Rob Weaver, drives that point home and illustrates that, despite their huge disadvantage, EBR is now cranking out world beating bikes. Just by the handful rather than by the thousands. :continue:

‘A culmination of everything Erik Buell has learned’

In this fourth EBR 1190RS promotional video, Geoff May and Erik Buell talk about riding the new American superbike. With a v-twin making 175bhp and a 176kg weight, words like “predictable,” “balance,” and “smoothness” aren’t the first adjectives you’d expect, but they’re what Erik targeted and Geoff reports. :continue:

A quick Q&A with Erik Buell on the EBR 1190RS wheels

The other day, in comments under the latest EBR video, Jason McCrash said he was curious to find out more about the EBR 1190RS’s wheels. Good thinking Jason, we just had a quick chat with Erik about them, here’s what he has to say. :continue:

‘Why doesn’t America make cool bikes?’

Erik Buell is a patriot. One of the most talented motorcycle engineers in the world, he could have taken his talent to the big four for big bucks. Instead, he went to Harley. When they ditched him, did he flee to a foreign brand? Nope, he stayed in East Troy, Wisconsin, employing as many American workers as he can afford. It’s going to be small-scale innovators like him, not neolithic corporations, that pull us out of our current economic doldrums. :continue:

‘They can feel it in their fingers and in their toes’

In this 2nd EBR 1190RS promotional video, Geoff May, Erik Buell and Tony Stefanelli talk handling, suggesting the 175bhp v-twin handles like a bike with “half the capacity.” Having been out on track at the same time as one, we believe them. This thing turns, stops and steers as fast as it goes. :continue:
