EBR-1190RS

‘We’re finally free’ — Erik Buell

In this third installment of EBR’s behind the scenes look at 1190RS production Erik and Geoff Mat talk about the significance of the project and its challenges while giving you a look at some of the handmade carbon fiber production. EBR, fuck yeah.

Update: part 4 is out too, it’s below. :continue:

A quick Q&A with Erik Buell on the EBR 1190RS wheels

The other day, in comments under the latest EBR video, Jason McCrash said he was curious to find out more about the EBR 1190RS’s wheels. Good thinking Jason, we just had a quick chat with Erik about them, here’s what he has to say. :continue:

‘They can feel it in their fingers and in their toes’

In this 2nd EBR 1190RS promotional video, Geoff May, Erik Buell and Tony Stefanelli talk handling, suggesting the 175bhp v-twin handles like a bike with “half the capacity.” Having been out on track at the same time as one, we believe them. This thing turns, stops and steers as fast as it goes. :continue:

Racing the EBR 1190 Typhon

Pre-season testing in Spain revealed that the EBR 1190 Typhon gave away about 9mph on the straights to the fully-faired RR. So, Pegasus Race Team decided to enter the British, European, American Race Series using the faired bike for fast circuits and the Typhon for slower tighter ones. Last weekend, despite setting what was probably the fastest lap of the Lausitzring on a naked bike ever, the team was still three seconds a lap down on bikes like the Aprilia RSV4, BMW S1000RR and Ducati Desmosedici, so put the fairing back on brought home a first and second place. :continue:

Video: building an EBR 1190RS

Good rock and an awesome motorcycle. We wouldn’t expect anything less of Erik Buell. He and his small team convert each EBR 1190RS from a Rotax 1125 by hand at their tiny East Troy, Wisconsin garage. In this video, you can follow that process from build to dyno test. :continue:

11 motorcycles that will make this summer awesome

Our friend JonB pinged us yesterday — “New job, new season, time for a new bike. What should I buy? HFL should do a buyer’s guide.” Good idea. Here’s 11 motorcycles you can afford that will make 2011 a summer to remember. :continue:

Developing the EBR 1190 Typhon

What do you do if you’re a tiny volunteer-only European race team developing a naked version of the EBR 1190RR both as a product for the street and as a race bike? Why, you obtain the fastest liter bike of the moment, the BMW S1000RR, and spend a week in Spain trying to make your roadster go faster than the superbike, that’s what. :continue:

EBR 1190 Typhon hits the track

Remember the Erik Buell Racing 1190 Typhon? It’s a concept streetfighter based on the 185rwhp EBR 1190RR and built by the world’s largest EBR race team. These exclusive photos and exclusive video show its first track outing at Spain’s Motorland Aragon where it was able to lap within seven seconds of race bikes like the BMW S1000RR and Aprilia RSV4, despite being saddled with a stock 1125 motor and street tires. Soon, you’ll be able to buy a kit to turn your old Buell into something similar.

Custom: Manx Norton Moderne

If you wanted to capture the spirit of the original Manx Norton in a modern bike, which would you choose? Sebastien Beaupere picked the Buell XB because of its powerful air-cooled motor. Originally intending to stick that engine in a featherbed-style frame, he became convinced he couldn’t best the stock Buell item. He did swap in an original Manx seat, hand-formed aluminum bodywork and air-intakes and a leather headlight containing 60 LEDs arranged to form Norton’s old Isle of Man race number — 1.

The Manx Norton Moderne is being unveiled exclusively on HFL.

Geoff May’s EBR 1125RR

These are the first pictures of the AMSOIL-sponsored EBR 1125RR that Geoff May will race at Daytona on March 12. Scott from Cleveland CycleWerks snapped them for us at the Indy Dealer Expo this weekend. While Erik Buell says this bike will be superseded by the EBR 1190RS in time for the AMA Pro Superbike Infineon round in May, this contraption is still far from shabby. The 1126cc Rotax v-twin makes 170hp at the rear wheel and the whole thing weighs just 368lbs (wet). AMSOIL has signed up for a three-year title sponsorship of EBR bikes in the AMA Pro Superbike series.
