You’ve seen engines rev past 7,000rpm plenty of times. 180hp at the back wheel isn’t rare anymore either. Neither is nitrous. But have you seen a 1950s Vincent Black Shadow motor do all the above? Epimetheus, a 1,665cc Vincent built by John Renwick and Ed Wallbank does all that. :continue:

Shop: Falcon Motorcycles

The converted industrial warehouse that houses Falcon Motorcycles is tucked away at the dead end of a gritty street just off the I-10 freeway in downtown Los Angeles. There are no signs, the exterior is bland and the surrounding buildings are still home to heavy industry and manufacturing. Inside, the large live/work space is brightly lit by massive skylights, where Ian Barry and his crew meticulously build Falcon’s homages to English motorcycling of a bygone era. But I didn’t shoot during daylight, during regular production hours. I photographed at night while Ian quietly toiled away on new designs from his lofted open office above the transformed dark and cavernous machine shop. Was he politely guarding an attic full of secret projects? Naturally. Click below for the feature.

Custom: Black Falcon

This is the Black Falcon, a custom motorcycle based on a Vincent Black Shadow, built by Falcon Motorcycles. To create it, Ian Barry began with a land speed record racer that’d sat idle for 25 years, blueprinting that engine and creating a one-off frame to house it. Every part has been re-engineered and re-considered to create what is essentially an entirely new motorcycle, just one that evokes a past that could have existed.

Ever get the feeling that Australians have more fun than we do? Combine 1 horse racing track, a hodge podge of dirt bikes, 1 vintage Vincent tracker, a 10-year-old and 1 dodgy photo permit in the US and the result would be handcuffs. Yeah, that combination of words disgusts us too and it pretty much sums up the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which will be featuring bikes for the first time this August. Wait, don’t us greasy, counterculture bikers have our own fancy bike and C-list celebrity event in the form of Legend of the Motorcycle?
