How to shoot pedestrians with your motorcycle

Just over a month ago, there was much fanfare about two bikers in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, who incited riots with their motorcycles’ exhausts and who were eventually charged with terrorism. It is worth mentioning that San Luis Potosi has been hit with drug violence, and that its residents were already on edge. Still, terrorism? :continue:

For $160, all the helmet you’ll ever need

By now, you’re used to seeing us wear crazy expensive motorcycle gear. Custom leather suits, Japanese race gauntlets, fancy jackets and nice boots. That’s because, using motorcycles as our main transportation and frequently doing stupid, stupid things on them, we need the best functionality and safety out there. Especially the safety. But, what if you could find all that safety and most of those features in a helmet that costs just $160? You can in this new Icon Alliance. :continue:

Is Ducati developing a liquid-cooled Hypermotard?

The Ducati Hypermotard is a great bike, but boths its 796 and 1,100 air-cooled twins run out of revs too early for seriously enthusiastic riding. This spy photo, though, shows what’s clearly a liquid-cooled motor in the Hyper chassis. Il Ducatisti suggests its the Testastretta 11 from the Ducati Streetfighter 848.

Adey rides the Panigale

Everyone’s favorite street racer/personal trainer/male model/art director/fashion designer, Adey, just borrowed a Ducati 1199 Panigale for a couple days from Beverly Hills Ducati. You know what he did with it too, The Snake. Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for, a real rider on a real road on the world’s fastest motorcycle.

Update: two more videos added. :continue:

Ask a motorcycle thief

So earlier this week, the guys over at RideIt had an idea: solicit a motorcycle thief to do one of their Ask Me Anythings. First answered by a cop in London and later an actual bike thief from the US, the results are positively illuminating. Here, we’ve edited the material into something linear and easily digestible. It’s a must-read if you don’t want your bike to get stolen. :continue:

Life Electric: is it possible?

My time with the 2012 Zero DS is up. The nice man from Zero came and picked it up this morning. For three whole weeks, the fastest, longest-range electric motorcycle ever was my only transportation. I didn’t drive any cars, I didn’t ride my bicycle, I didn’t hop on any other bikes. I might have walked a little bit once or twice. Why? I wanted to know if it was possible. Early adopters and techno geeks and and greenie weenies aside, can a normal person with normal transportation needs really make the switch to zero emissions? Well…the answer is not what what I was expecting.

Is this the first totaled 1199?

This 23-photo sequence shows South African Superbike rider Chris Leeson crashing his Ducati 1199 Panigale in Turn 1 at the Kyalami Race Track. Chris was entering the turn at high speed when he lost the front over the track’s notoriously bumpy pavement. No major injuries, to the rider at least. As you can see in the photos, the Ducati sheds pretty much every major sticky-outy part.

T-Mobile makes a Ducati ad

Need to advertise speed? What better way than by associating your technically obtuse product with a vehicle intrinsically associated with performance by every man, woman and child? That’s what T-Mobile did in this new ad for its not-really-4G network. It’s made all the better by putting the T-Mobile girl, Carly Foulkes on the bike in full safety gear and making sure her sex appeal is used in an empowering way. Empowering like high-speed cell networks, get it? :continue:

What Audi and Ducati look like together

Tasked with developing social content around the breaking acquisition of Ducati by VW, an Audi marketing intern dashed out of HQ this morning, parked a Diavel next to an R8 and snapped these pics. Man, are they going to look good on Ferdinand Piech’s Facebook timeline too. “Life Event: Bought Ducati. Suck it Quandt.”
