Aprilia RSV4 coming stateside Q4 2009

Speaking exclusively to Hell for Leather, Piaggio Group USA President and CEO Paolo Timoni revealed that the Aprilia RSV4 will finally go on sale in the US during the final quarter of this year. The 180bhp, 85lb/ft, 179kg (dry) superbike was first revealed last September. The gap between unveiling and introduction is likely due to SBK homologation requirements, which require a returning manufacturer to build at least 250 units for initial homologation and 1000 units by June of the first year in racing. It’s likely that Aprilia rushed the road bike’s unveiling in order to race, figuring it could spend most of 2009 doing final development and ramping up for full production. The 2010 BMW S1000RR appears to be on a similar schedule for the same reason.
