2009 Ducati Monster 1100, 1100S get Hypermotard parts

Ducati_Monster_1100_front.jpgThe Ducati Monster 1100 and Ducati Monster 1100S have just been unveiled. Both come with Monster 696 styling; a single-sided swingarm; two huge, ugly exhaust;, and the 95bhp, 79.5lb/ft 1100cc air-cooled desmo twin from the Hypermotard and Multistrada.

Update: The Monster 1100 will be priced around $12,000 in the US, while the 1100S will come in at $14,000. Both prices are in line with the Hypermotard 1100 and 1100S.
Ducati_Monster_1100.jpgCompared to the Monster 696 (which weighs 161kg dry, makes 80bhp and 50.6lb/ft) the 1100 weighs only 8kg more, while making an extra 15bhp and 28.9lb/ft of torque.

Ducati_Monster_1100S.jpgThe 1100S gains USD Öhlins forks with radial Brembos; an Öhlins rear shock; and carbon cam covers, exhaust endcaps and mudguard to reduce the weight 1kg to 168kg/370lbs (dry).

Ducati_Monster_1100S_location.jpgThe standard model will be offered in red, silver and black; while the S will come in either white or red.

Ducati_Monster_1100S_rear.jpgThe new, single-sided swingarm is our favorite addition and the Hypermotard-style wheels are also pretty cool, but we're holding out for the all-new "cross between a Tuono, Brutale and fits between Monster and Hypermotard." Which uses the outgoing water-cooled 1099cc 1098 engine (there's a 2009 Ducati 1198 replacing the old superbike).

Its fugly. Rear cowl doesn't slope down enough so it looks like the whole thing is buckling in the middle.

From the front 3/4 view, it looks a lot like the Aprilia Shiver.

The sss is much better looking than on older models. I'm still not convinced the rest of it is, however.

No thanks. Shiver, Brutale, Duke and Tuono all look much, much better.

Did Treblanche have anything to do with this?

Pierre Terreblanche already left Duke a while back (?)
too many steroids me thinks. (the bike not Pierre)

Shoulda done underseat or low level exhaust. I'm tired of the pipes being in this wrong placement, including on my Vstrom.

Freaking beautiful!!!

I want one... hopefully the "S"

I HAVE HAD HARLEYS FOR OVER A DECADE AND NOW AM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS UNJAPANESE LOOKING AND YET STILL HAS THE DESIRED WOW FACTOR. I SEE THE MONSTER 1100S AS THE PERFECT BIKE TO DEFECT TO WITHOUT GOING MAINSTREAM. wHEN DUCATI STARTS PRODUCING ENMASSE THEN I GUESS I WILL MOVE OVER TO MOTOGUZZI OR APRILA.
BUT FOR 17K CDN I THINK THE MONSTER IS A DEAL AND WILL BE A BLAST TO TOY WITH.

The Tuono is growing old; the Super Duke is a great bike but a little tempermental and odd-looking from some angles; the Brutale is also aging and is just freaking expensive to maintain, and it's not the best urban bike.

In comparison, the 1100S Monster is light, simple, great handling, with great brakes and fat torque curve to go along with a great riding position.

Sure, the stock cans are ugly. But there's always the carbon Termis!

It's beautiful in person. Pics don't do justice.

This is the best monster yet. I've been a Ducati rider for many years, and I can tell you the 1100s f..king ROCKs.. get one (or 2) you'll love it man.
