No brakes! Checa wins Suzuka 8 Hours for Honda despite mechanical fault

2008_Dream_Honda_CBR1000RR_suzuka.jpg“I had no front brake during my last stint. I only had engine braking and rear brake so I was really nervous. When it started to rain, the team showed me ‘Pit In’ signal, but I decided not to come in.” Carlos Checa managed to bring the HRC Dream Honda CBR1000RR in to win the 2008 Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race despite the complete failure of his front brakes shortly after the final rider change. His teammate, Riyuichi Kiyonari, had earlier reported problems with the bike’s brakes, but mechanics were unable to discover the cause. Despite the failure, the team finished 78.9 seconds ahead of the second place Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R 1000.
