2009 Yamaha R1 on the way

2009_Yamaha_r1.jpgThis is shaping up to be a big year for Yamaha, not only is Valentino Rossi back on form, but they’re launching the new V-Max—at 210bhp the most powerful series production motorcycle ever—next week, which should soon be followed by the all-new 2009 R1.

A perrenial also-ran since the stunning 2002 version (itself not the year’s best performer), the R1 has evolved from a hardcore, high-performance, experts only superbike into a friendly almost-sports-tourer, at least in comparison to other bikes in the liter class.
While no firm details or images of the bike have yet leaked, expect it to borrow inspiration from the R6 and M1 MotoGP bike in a bid to regain performance supremacy. If Yamaha is to achieve this, the new R1 will need to move the game on to a similar degree, it'll need to embrace Kando.

In 1998 the original R1 usurped Honda’s CBR900RR Fire Blade with more power, less weight, mass centralization and much more contemporary looks. We expect to see more of the same for 2009 with close to 200bhp at the crank, weight close that of the current R6, a GP-style exhaust and a look that’s part R6 and part M1. Also present will be Yamaha’s fly-by-wire throttle and variable length intakes. The thing is, all of that is now considered fairly conventional, so it’s almost certain that Yamaha are looking to give the R1 some as-yet unseen technological innovation or other unique selling point. We’ll just have to wait and see to find out what that is.

I am a yamaha R1 fan!!! This looks like a disaster for a new R1.
I really hope the new R1 looks nothing like this one!!
I dont like anything about this one.
"Start looking at the Ducati 1098 RR for some ideas!!!
Now there is a good start..

How can anyone not like this look. Do you really want another year of small faring changes, different curves in the tank, and different style of seat with the same outdated exhaust that; to everyones defense, does look mean, but 5 years of it is enough. I am a huge yamaha fan and proud owner of an '05 R1. This is the sickest R1 yet. Its time for a change, and this is it!

IM READY FOR THE R1 TO CHANGE, I DONT REALY CARE FOR THE 2008 BODY STYLE. IT TO MUTCH LIKE THE 2004-2006 STYLE. ITS OUTDATED.

love the new look of the 2009 r1 a must is the red white and with silver frame.and small cans like the suzuki gsxr 1000 on each side i have 3 1998 r1s with running in miles just love them anthony

BY THE LOOKS DEPARTMENT YAMAHA REALLY NEED TO CHANGE THE LOK OF PRESENT R1,
THEIMAGE YOU PEPOLE HAVE SHOWN IS NOT BAD N ALSO NOT GREAT EITHER, LOOKS LIKE CURRENT R6'S BROTHER,YAMAHA DOES NEED TO CHANGE THE LOOKS OF NEXT GENERATION R1'S,

TECHNOLOGY THOUGH CURRENT FLYING YZR M1'S WILL BE USED TO NEXT ROAD BIKES TOO, SO I AM SURE YAMAHA HAS WINNER ON HANDS

2009 R1 looks great!!Needs to be 200bhp at the crank tho!! As for looking like other bikes....it wants to be as far away from the 1098rr as poss!!!!!!!!!!!!

sport-tourer!? wes, you're breaking my heart here.

Well, it's just gone a bit soft in comparison to rivals like the CBR1000RR and ZX-10R. It probably does make the better road bike though.

who gives a shit about the looks???? Its going straight to the track with the new bad ass 2K9....all the plastic crap can go on ebay, this shit is going racing! Rossi WINS AGAIN!

The 09 r1 is going to be sick!! I personally like the rendered speculations. It think it is a nice twist on the classic R1 look with some contemporary flares like the center air duct and the fairings. Im not a yamaha die hard but i have a feeling they will take the crown this time.

fuck r1...chop it ups and customs are it!!!

Choppers and harleys suck bad!!! If i want to go that slow i will buy a honda civic!!!!

HaHa really customs... I dont like when my ass goes numb.. I like to be able to hear when I get off the bike.. and not have to worry about dragging a foot peg going 20 in town..

Back on topic the new r1 is going to be my 09 Race bike. I raced a 02 r1 last year and it was way underpowered.. but this bike just might do the trick...

If the new 2009 R1 looks like this. Then ill put my order in ASAP.

I too hope this is not the new style for the new yamaha. i am a proud owner of 2007 yamaha r1 and want to trade in my bike for a new 2009 r1 if the body changed but looking at this picture looks like i wont be doing so.

i dont care too much about the looks. i took out an 07 with the plan to buy and 08. i was left disapointed. i hate under stead pipes. it gets too hot. and the power comes in too late.

ive ended up keeping my 99 r1 and im hanging in there until this bad boy comes out

200bhp. sounds fun.

i want a bike to scare me again. and nothing out there at the moment does that.

they posted pix of Edwards flogging the new (and not so attractive) R1 on superbikeplanet. Doesn't look like these renditons... it looks worse. Still, the specs sure sound interesting!

What he hell is that pink purple crap! Don't tell me they have some inspiration from those old ninjas that had a touch of pink in the scheme. As bad ass as the R6 is I would have thought they do something just as extreme and eye catching for the R1. This bike sucks.

Yamaha R1 needes a fresh look at its superbike design and needs to produced the closest one can get to a 2 wheeled F1 car. This motorcycle is all about low weight, low drag and superb handling. Styling is just as important. R1 is not for soft cocks. And this pic does not represent the pinnacle of superbike design sorry.

here's the real R1 '09 ..... no more speculations... the r1'09 shld be lookin like this, it shld be lookin like dat...Crap! With its new crankshaft design. it'll sure hell kick the shit out of u once u hit the throttle

yea this beats them all in all the possible ways

I really like this R1, how do I buy? Is there a way I can buy this bike. thanks....
