Malcolm Newell's Quasar goes feet forward into the future

newell's quasar .jpegIn 1968 Malcolm Newell and Ken Leaman created the first Quasar cabin motorcycle after Newell's failed attempt to create a three-wheeler for the then wildly popular UK trike market. Eight years later, the first production Quasar was complete and 31 were sold. The Quasar's power was supplied by an 850cc 4-cylinder Reliant car engine, but after production ceased, Newell hand-built Quasars using engines ranging from 750 Hondas to a Kawasaki 1300. The innovative and effective alternative motorcycle was promoted heavily but production problems and Newell's early death at 54 stopped the Quasar from being commonplace on Britain's roads.
