FV1200 shows Aprilia the way forward
It’s easier to appreciate the FV1200 if you think of it as a technological declaration of intent rather than a styling exercise. It’s likely that Aprilia will bring a 1200cc v-twin to market in the near future to compete with new, larger capacity rivals from Ducati and KTM, and to meet new World Superbike regulations that allow v-twins to increase in size to 1200cc. The parallelogram front suspension is less radical than it looks, based on the successful system employed on the company’s 250 GP racers, and the carbon fibre monocoque is similar to the aluminum one found on Kawasaki’s ZX-12R. All interesting applications, which allegedly bring the FV1200’s weight in below 160kgs. We won’t be seeing this bike on the street any time soon, but developments of the technology it showcases will eventually trickle down to Aprilia’s road and race bikes. Aprilia
